In order to keep track of a myriad of portfolio items including print, identity, web, user interface design, and more, the Proteus Creative site (portfolio of designer Daniel Anderson) leverages much of C5's internal power, including custom attributes, page types, and numerous custom templates. The design intention was to make the barrier between the visitor and the portfolio content as thin as possible, allowing maximum exposure to the designer's work. The theme that powers it, titled Obsidian, was later packaged into a purchasable add-on that can be used on other sites. You can find the Obsidian theme here.
The site was redesigned in summer of 2010 using HTML5 markup and almost all CSS3-based techniques. As much as a cutting-edge experiment as it was a production-level site, the portfolio is capable of displaying information on a project including, clientele, project date, and project descriptions. In the case of web-based projects, live instances of homepages are displayed within the site (no frames are used) so that visitors can absorb the full design experience. A toolbar offers a browser compatibility checklist, a description, and a link to the live site.
In the future, the inner workings of the portfolio site may be expanded to include full renderings of print-items that visitors can turn around and open. Filtering and searching capabilities may be added in the future.
