They were in a jam.
Portland Bible College (PBC) had a website. On old, out-dated website.
At first glance one might not have noticed exactly how out-dated it was, but the online course-catalog was the most telling: three years. Now to say that it was entirely out of date would be untrue, but the reality was that they needed a change. There are those who believe you should make due and get along with what you have, but there are others who feel that sometimes things just ought to work right, and that's why the new website PBC was created using Concrete5.
When the college needed a change to their website past, they would contact the one developer who held the keys. He hosted the site, he knew how it was developed, and weeks and dollars later their small changes might be implemented. However, with a limited budget and more than a few things they wanted done to bring their site up-to-date, Concrete5 became their perfect match.
From the day the comps first launched, their staff has been active in adding to and updating their new site. They hold the keys now. The site is hosted on an account under their control, and their site is continually maintained by their staff. Students volunteer to create new graphics, and the site is always current. They are excited to have so much control, but as a developer, I have been excited to offer a solution that grows with them. By installing a few updates and leading them towards a few add-ons from the Marketplace, I have been able to make sure that all of their needs are met.
I really believe that Concrete5 brings together some of the best qualities of an easy-to-develop-for, flexible, extensible architecture with an easy-to-use, simple-as-pie editing interface. Nearly anyone can maintain a site that's built using Concrete5, without making it explode.
