Block 'cells'

How do I delete, resize or move the 'cells' in the layouts that the blocks go into? I have 2 that I can't get rid of that are interfering with my layout, and one that I want to increase in size for my text block and I can't find how to do that. Thanks in advance. This is in 5.7.1.

Hi nigelyoung,

When you refer to "cell", do you mean areas or custom layout areas?

Can you take some screenshots of what you are encountering.

Hi Mr Dilkington

I have attached 3 screen shots as suggested - the 'cells' I'm referring to are the boxes - one below 'Phil Teague' and labelled both Column 1 and Sitewide header site title, and the other is on the right after '3D portraits' and labeled Sitewide header search. Thanks for your help.

The green outlined box with the label "Column 1" is a custom layout. Custom layouts can be modified. Check out this article for more information on what they are and how to modify them.

Sitewide Header Site Title and Sitewide Header Search are both global areas. They get their height from the content inside them (more content makes it taller or vice versa) and their width from the Bootstrap grid system. To modify their width, you need to change the Bootstrap grid classes in the Elemental page template.

Bootstrap is beyond the scope of what I can explain in one reply. I recommend checking out the Bootstrap site to learn more about the grid.

I included a marked up screenshot to explain what is going on. Basically, the content has to fit into the width of the columns (red boxes).

Hi Mr Dilkington - thanks for that, its a great help. My next question is, how do I delete a layout if I no longer need it? I'm starting to wonder if I am in over my head, as I don't write code and I am very much an amateur - perhaps there is more to this than just a web site word processor.
