site crashed when updated

Hi Please can someone assist.

I was using an older version of concrete5 and was prompted to update to the latest version. When I did my server was apparently filled with many files, and has now crashed everything to the point where I cannot log in and reverse (if possible).

I now cannot receive my emails, access the site or indeed anything.

Please can anyone assist with this major issue.

Thanks. Richard

Hi Richard,
At first glance, it appears as though your hosting provider may be the best resource for you. Are you able to access your hosting admin panel at all?

Hi Adrian,

I have spoken with my hosting provider who advised the attempt to update the side caused the whole of my storage quota allowance to be all used up which may have corrupted the update? They have provided me with some more space to try and rectify the issue but originally before the attempted update I had plenty of space.

So I can now access my cpanel but unable to get the site working again.

Any thoughts.

Rich, Going by memory here :)
From Cpanel's file manager:
1) check your Updates folder in your C5 installation and see how many updates are in there (only the last SUCCESSFUL update needs to be there). Write them down for reference... Delete the oldest ones to make more space available. They can always be re-installed if needed
2) Go to the Concrete folder > then Config folder > then use your Cpanel code editor to open version.php and manually change the version number to your last working version (pre your recent upgrade attempt) and save.

Hopefully this will allow your site to work again.
Once working, go to Dashboard > Systems & Settings > Optimization >Automated Jobs and click the run icon for Remove Old Page Versions. Also, if Statistics is turned on under SEO & Statistics, turn it off (it takes up a ton of storage).
Remember to Clear Cache and do backups before an upgrade attempt :)

Let me know if this gets you going

hi,

I performed option 1). i think ok?

Option 2) config folder does not have a file called version.php in it only only site.php and site_theme_paths.php

when I now try to log in i get a message - Invalid "DIRNAME_APP_UPDATED" defined. Please remove it from /home/reacttr/public_html/concrete5/config/site.php.

so i still cannot gain access to the login screen or dashboard.

Do you want to run a screen share??

Thanks

I've got the page back and I can log in !!! Yea

Not sure how but its working now.

Can I say a huge thank you as I am a complete beginner at this and haven't a clue on what I'm doing. I still need to clear a stack of space as the last update killed my storage but I'll have to see how I can do this.

Thanks a million again.
