Hi all, I want to know that Starting a new project in which version is better, is it to go with 5.7 or 5.6? Please give your opinion with some pros / con of using 5.7 or 5.6.

As of today, I'm going to try and do all new projects in 5.7.
I'm about 25% completed on the homepage of my latest version, and so far it seems pretty usable. I haven't run into any deal breakers like I did with the initial 5.7 release.

5.7
Pro - Site is going to last longer... seems to run faster, cleaner backend. Editing interface may be easier for someone new to C5, though I could argue this both ways.
Con - Tons of code I've saved up over the years is pretty unusable, but most of it isn't necessary with the setup.

5.6
Pro - I'm way faster at developing... lots of code snippets and base themes I work from.
Con - Not sure what's going to happen in 1 year. Like a joomla 1.5 site :-)

For me, this depends on what is necessary in which timeframe.

If it is 'just a brochure'-website (display content somehow), I'd go for 5.7, as it does everything you need for that and with all the framework integration, it is very easy to build your own theme.

If there is any complex functionality necessary, I check if I can realize it myself, if I can hire someone to do it or if it can wait some more time to be available and I'll use 5.7...

Only if it has to be ready 'right now' and there is no add-on available as of now, I'd stick to 5.6...

I like 5.6, but I fear the day a client asks me to rebuild the whole site in 5.7 because 'when you've built it, the new version was already available', so I try to move to 5.7 as early as possible and by solving many little problems on the way, I actually learn some stuff that I never had to learn before, because 5.6 had it already available as add-ons.

So what are your requirements?
