If a developer builds a commercial add-on (to be distributed via the market place)... does this addon have so be "open-source" (redable source) or is it ok to protect or obfuscate the sourcecode?
If you do decide to do it (even though 99% can be decoded with apps on the web) make sure at least the view.php can be edited and clearly indicated the code is obfuscated on the marketplace listing.
Whelp, I'm loathed to say never in life, but I see a number of issues with this. While some of the stuff is commercial in our marketplace today, it is all open source, which is good.
I guess it'd have to be a pretty awesome add-on, and yes we'd need to make pretty clear that it wasn't actually open source in the marketplace.
I guess if there's some really beefy app you've got that's gonna be super helpful to a lot of people and make us all a lot of money, I'm all ears - but generally I see this as a somewhat problematic approach.

I always liked the fact that I was able to modify/improve the addons we've bought.
