Whatever happened to the password option on the File block?

I notice both in the documentation as well as the discussions that the File block once had the option of adding a "quickie" password. But as far as I can tell, it's no longer there. Has it been dropped in favor of Advanced Permissions? Are there any other blocks that manage files that offer this option? For my specific use I would prefer not having to use the standard user function.
Click on the file and select Access & Permissions.
