Best UK based host for C5?

Hi,
I've tried Rackspace's Cloud Site for one of the sites thinking it would be a fast experience as it's more expensive, but it's pretty slow (good-dealsuk.com) - I'm actually trying to get to the bottom of why it is so slow as Rackspace say there aren't any problems.
Just wondering if anyone might share their experiences with some UK-based shared hosts that are fast and reliable? I've tried Dreamhost and it's slow for us in the UK (where the majority of our clients are) while I'm not a fan of Bluehost from past experience.
Any advice appreciated (and preferably with examples so I can see the performance).

This is great - I've looked at Hostway before and they looked like a good option, can't remember why I didn't go with them in the end. Good to hear they cope well with C5 sites though!
With a VPS, I've never set one up, so I'm assuming there'd be a steep learning curve? I'm primarily a front-end developer who gets his hands dirty with PHP and adapting existing plugins and functionality, I rarely write stuff from scratch...I'm assuming the difference would be big right?

I have a site at storminternet.co.uk I think they have good speed and very good service
My personal selection would be as follows:
Shared Budget,http://www.blackfoot.co.uk
Shared Mid Level,http://www.hostway.co.uk
Shared Expensive,http://www.rackspace.co.uk (non cloud)
VPS,http://www.hostway.co.uk
Dedicated servers,http://www.ukfast.co.uk (the clue is in the name and they are super fast servers but not a cheap option unless you want to host a very large site or run your own hosting company)
Every one will have a different selection mostly based on good experiences and reliability, these are just mine.

p.s Sorry just saw the last line about examples. All my C5 sites are on a dedi now so not really a fair comparison but if you want to see some examples just PM me.
