Call to a member function getUserPublicProfileURL() on null

I've got a user account that triggers the following error when they try to view their private messages (or sent items):

Call to a member function getUserPublicProfileURL() on null

Other users aren't effected as far as I can tell. Does anyone have any ideas what's triggering this?
