Cloudflare, anyone using it?

Hi

Just stumbled across cloudflare.com, from reading the overview on the site and some glowing reviews it sounds like something that is too good not to use. Has anybody used it? Are there any reasons NOT to use it?

Here is a statement from their site...

On average, a website on CloudFlare ...
... loads 30% faster
... uses 60% less bandwidth
... has 65% fewer requests
... is way more secure
All for free!

Thanks
Karl

Hey mnkras - have you installed mod_pagespeed with a c5 site? Any side effects? I'm going to try it out, just making sure there weren't any major speed bumps before I started. Thanks!

i have not installed it yet, but i read through google's docs on it, and it says it should work with any cms, so i would assume it should work fine,

I'd be curious to hear from anyone having firsthand experience with mod_pagespeed as well. Here's an excerpt from a recent newsletter from a client's hosting provider...

> In early November Google announced a little project of
> theirs called mod_pagespeed. It's an Apache module (a web
> server 'add-on') that's designed to make your websites load
> nearly twice as fast as they did before.
>
> Really, Google just wants the WHOLE WEB to load faster.
> That's what this module is all about.
>
> Less than 24 hours after mod_pagespeed was made available we
> had it deployed across our network so that all of our
> customers could experience a faster way to serve up their
> websites!

Sounds fantastic, but I'm just wondering if there might be any implications at all for a C5 site - especially one where page content changes frequently. I haven't read any Google docs on the module, but I'd like to proceed cautiously.

Anyone using it? Noticed any side effects at all?

I've got a spare VPS right now (going to cancel next month) if anyone is interested in measuring some pageload speeds let me know...

I've moved all sites over to a new VPS, this one is fast, so if anyone wants to collaborate on some speed testing, lemme know!

FWIW, I went ahead and "flipped the switch" to enable mod_pagespeed for a site on DreamHost, and the website wouldn't load - just a blank page and the forever busy indicator. The hosting provider makes it clear that the feature is in beta, so no surprise I guess. It seems it doesn't work for WordPress users with SuperCache enabled either. Other users have reported great improvements in page load times. I wonder if the C5 cache mechanism has anything to do with it.

Anyway, there's no point in pursuing it further at this time. I might give it another try when it's out of beta.

Just a follow up on this - I enabled mod_pagespeed on a media temple VPS and it worked fine - still measuring how much it has helped, but it definitely works w/ c5.
