Connecting to Verifying Ownership - Google

Hi, I realize this is a very elementary issue I'm struggling with, but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction...

I'm trying to verify the ownership of my site (hosted through Concrete5) for Google so that I can create an email address that will look like "example@mydomainname.com," as opposed to "example@gmail.com."

It gives me four options:
1. Add a DNS record to your domain's configuration
2. Add a meta tag to your site's home page
3. Upload an HTML file to your server
4. Link to your Google Analytics account (which I don't have)

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

The easiest way to do this is to upload the HTML file.

Google Webmaster Central will give you an option to download an html file with a name something like this:
google################.html

After you download the file, use your favorite FTP client (filezilla, etc.) to upload that file to the root directory of your website.

Go back to Google Webmaster Central and click the 'verify' link.

All this is by memory, which is kinda rusty, so hopefully this will be of help.

if i remember right, you need to update your spf records with your hoster or your registrar for email to work if you are trying to use google apps for domain. I went through this for quite a while, i could send email but not receive it. after i finally got everything correct and working everything was flawless. My issue was I was trying to apply these at godaddy where I actually had to apply them at my hosting provider.

Hope that helps.

We have been setting up Google Apps accounts for our clients and have tried all the options given by Google and have found that it is easiest to: A. select the Google option #2 "Add a meta tage to your site's homepage" and copy the code provided. B. login to your site, edit your homepage, click on properties, custom attributes, click the drop down menu and select "Header Extra Content" and paste the code in there.

All you have to do then is save and verify with Google. Quick and easy,NO FTP NEEDED :).

That will get your site verified the quickest and then you can change your MX records later to enable your email accounts.
