I guess i need a little help. I have a domain name already registerd. I had the site hosted on a friends server. the A record IP pointed the domain name to the hosting server.
I switched to C5 ( sweet BTW) and am having C5 host. I went to "park" the existing domain name and changed the dns servers on the domian registrars site to the ns1.c5host.com and ns2.c5host.com. and removed the old A record IP pointing it to the old server.
unfortunatly nothing has happened except that when i type the domain name i get a 404 error.
I relaize that this is way amature level stuff, can some one shove me in the right direction?
Changes to the nameservers can take 24 hours or more to propagate throughout the internet. If you just made these changes today, you will most likely not see the changes until sometime tomorrow. If you can provide the domain name I'd be glad to take a look as well and see if they have propagated yet for me.
This might be a stupid question, but have you signed up your site with C5 hosting and received confirmation from them that it is setup? It looks like it's pointing properly, but the setup might not be complete on C5's side. I'm not sure what this process is since I don't host with C5.
No, not a dumb question, I thought of that as well. but I do have my setup confirmation and if I go tohttp://fresnoldsprom.c5host.com... my site is there...
can you answer me what is the best route to take, changing the nameservers and parking the domian with C5 or using the A record and pointing the domain at a specific IP.
do I need to do anything with url forwarding or changing the home directories on the registrars site? ( I dont think those matter at all for what i am trying to do)
I am hosting the domian name with netfirms and dang they are slow/nonexistent in their support responses.
just in case i am not explaining myslef properly i attached a couple of screen shots of my domain manger interface i am dealing with...
Did you go to the Dashboard > Server Support tab in your concrete5 dashboard and park the domain there as well? If you enter the domain there as well this should start working on our end...
I actually did do that, a few times. however, each time it would indicate "domians updated" but under the "parked domains" it listed "none" i have tried to enter it bothhttp://www.fresnoldsprom.org andhttp://www.fresnodsprom.org and it still did the same thing.
