Edits not publishing

I am having a problem with pages not updating. If I edit a block (I have only tested a text block) it displays correctly after saving but then when I publish the page it has reverted to the original version. I have cleared the cache but it's made no difference. Suggestions anyone?
Last time I saw something like that it was because of some JS script setting the text content after page load. Have you tried with JS disabled in the browser?
It might be worth checking that your server isn't running a cache system in the backend, something like Varnish Cache, Lightspeed Cache, Cachewall or similar.
