"Invalid file." message when trying to upload pictures with filemanager

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I've been trying to fix this now for some while; When I want to upload a picture through filemanager(incoming method works) or on other ways, like uploading a bookmark icon, I get the message "Invalid file.", I checked the file permissions and looked through several posts on the Forum here, but I couldn't figure a solution, yet. If someone has the same problem, please give me a hint how to fix it, I'm getting desperate over here

Check Control Panel/System & Settings/Allowed File Types. If you are trying to upload a file with an extention not already specifed, you will have to add that additional file type extention. Default allowed file types are:
flv, jpg, gif, jpeg, ico, docx, xla, png, psd, swf, doc, txt, xls, xlsx, csv, pdf, tiff, rtf, m4a, mov, wmv, mpeg, mpg, wav, 3gp, avi, m4v, mp4, mp3, qt, ppt, pptx, kml, xml

lowercase vs uppercase extension?

nope, both extensions are lowercase. Is there any way to debug such an error?

It may help to get some information. Platform, Versions, custom mods, anything odd happen lately, etc...

Is the issue browser specfic?
Is the issue client specific?
Do you see anything in the logs?

okay, so anything odd happened lately.. well, I had to reinstall concrete5 cause Firefox told me "the page isn't redirecting properly", haven't tried with another browser. That issue happened.. quite random, mainly after installing packages, but the issue didn't occur when installing a special package, sometimes it worked longer, sometimes it didn't.

The Platform is a Windows platform, using IIS(Doesn't tell me which version), I have almost no information about the system, the webhost doesn't tell me much, I have no access to the logs

That's pretty sad that you don't have access to the logs. I looked at the phpinfo() information and did not see anything that seemed to be incorrect, but I am definately NOT and windows expert. Do both single and mutliple file uploads fail? Is it a particular type of file that fails (like .png files fail, but .txt files are OK)? Do you see any javascript errors in the log windows of your browser when the "invalid type" message appaears?

I'm just grasping at straws, trying to get a clue (the story of my life! LOL).

yea I'm not a windows expert either, and yep it's sad; the website is hosted on some dumb host server, told my boss to get a Linux host with ssh access, but nope, he doesn't sees a reason to get a Linux host..

both multiple and single uploads file, and every kind of file fails. There aren't any javascript errors

Have you tried a different computer and a different browser? Also, there is another thread dealing with uploads that appears to be caused by an incompatibilty/corrupted flash player. You could try uninstalling Shockwave flash player and reinstalling. Also, double check that the permissions in the /files folder are set writable "recusivly" .
