Local development vs remote

Hi, just a quick question - I've installed Concrete 5 on my server using the server control panel and bought a theme which I've applied directly to my site via the C5 marketplace.
But as I am going to be doing a lot of styling modification to the theme I think I'd be more comfortable developing locally - and I think this would be quicker as well.
Is this how people normally work?
I have MAMP on my mac so I could set it up quite easily and I have a copy of Visual Studio code which I have just started using.
1. If developing locally, how best to then update files to the server... FTP? or is there a better way?
2. Can I download a copy of my theme to apply to my local version?
3. Should I have the local version connected to the C5 community?
Sorry if these questions are a bit stupid but it's been a few years since I touched Concrete5 and I seem to have forgotten a lot of things!

Most developers work that way, depending on project with steps local=>staging=>live or local=>live

Depends on how much you are doing. FTP, Git, rsync. Personally I always develop in packages and use my Package Magic toolshttps://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/package-magic...

Yes, using a copy for development of the site it is licensed for is allowed within the marketplace license

Up to you. There are no license rules that insist on it, so its whether you find it useful
