new downloaded c5 is slow

Been using Concrete5 for a while and decided to download the new version last night on to a new laptop.
Nothing seems to have changed as far as speed is concerned. Is anyone else experiencing slow page load times? I counted between 7-10 seconds. I haven't changed any settings yet. The cache is on and I haven't altered anything.
