News add-on that uses records instead of dedicated pages for each entry?

Hi everybody,

I started to ply around with concrete5 and have a basic question about the way news are treated.

Hope that I can explain this right:
I come from Typo3 and I am used that news-entries are records which are collected on a page (a folder page) and which are placed on pages with a kind of projector-element (news list, short news, archive etc.).

Like this:
Root
- Home (has a content element for short news)
- News (has a content element for full news list, without archived news, see below)
- News Details (hidden in navigation, has content element for full view of single news)
- News Archive (optionally, like "News" but shows only old news, e.g. 30 days old)
- About Us
- Contact Us

That means that I don't have a hundred sub-pages after a certain time which makes the page menu burst vertically ;-)

But the only approach I could find among the extensions until now, is the blog-like approach that each news entry creates a new sub-page.
Am I wrong or have I overseen something?

Thank your for your help!

Cheers,
Thomas

with concrete5 you'd treat each news article as its own page, you'd simply make the nav not show hundreds of past items by either limiting it (using the autonav settings) or filtering it with paging on the page list, or using a custom template...

Are you using a News Add-on? It would be helpful to know what block type you are using. In fact, because of the just released Concrete5 version 5.7 and the fact that it has significant changes, it would be helpful to know which version of Concrete5 you are using as well.

But from what you did write, maybe this will be helpful
Concrete5 contains by default attributes for a page which you can select to make that page not visible (such as in the Main Nav), or as Franz said using the Autonav blocks settings you can control aspects of how many pages to show, their order, etc. Sometimes developers will have entire sections like this, that are then presented elsewhere (such as via a page list block). These page list views can be formatted & tailored to your needs with options to control which items are shown, and with different block templates. So you might have 3 different page lists and associated templates (which can be wherever you choose in the site) for Full News List, News Details, & News Archives.

I hope that helps, but without knowing more I'm somewhat shooting in the dark.

Have a look at the News & Blog Feed add-on. I think the functionality the add-on offers comes quite close to what you are looking for.
