I am wanting to add a page to my website that only people with a generic user name and password can get onto, what is the best way to do this

You will need to create the user/user group. Then create the page. Then go into the site map and restrict access for the new user group to only be able to the special page that you want and at the same time remove the read access to that page from any user groups you do not want to be able to access it.

sorry to be a bit thick, but i have followed what you have said.

I want to include the page in the navi, which everyone can see, but when selected the username and password is required,

how do i set the permissions?
