Problem after logging into website "checking for updates"

Today I ran into a problem after logging into one of my c5 websites. I logged in as normal and when presented with the "checking for updates" box, it caused the site to hang. The "checking for updates" box disappears after a couple of moments, leaving the grayed-out background, but the site is still hung up. I cannot access any other URL on the site while it is hung up. After a few minutes, the site's gray background disappears and everything returns to normal.

I have duplicated this problem across two separate servers and at least a dozen websites. I'm running different versions of c5 across these many websites. Any thoughts?

Thought that perhaps our server moves had something to do with this but just tested and all seems well.

This seems like it must be a network issue between your server and ours...

Checking for updates clogging up has always been an issue and the new server does not appear to have changed that. I suspect that internally you just don't see that problem as often as the rest of the concrete5 using world does.

I have run into the problem occasionally, but nothing on this scale. EVERY website on these two servers has been affected. I know it's not a concrete5 problem at this point because we were able to fix some issues on one server (without the help of the hosting company) that resolved the problem.

It would appear that every time one of the sites tries to access a site outside of the server, it fails. I've been beating my head against the door (figuratively) trying to convince the hosting company that their servers are misconfigured after they performed an upgrade. Perhaps my logic is flawed, but websites before their upgrade = fine; websites after upgrade = broken. They refuse to admit it. (Sorry, just venting a little bit this morning!)

Check to see if curl is running on your server
