reCaptcha v2 not working in Chrome or Firefox

Permalink
Hi all, first time posting here. not sure if i have the right forum.

i have a website which uses concrete5 version 8.2.1 and as of a month or 2 ago, the enquiry form has stopped working for chrome and firefox but is ok for safari and edge.
The "are you a robot" tick box works fine until you press the submit button and you'll then get an error message saying -

You must prove you are not a robot by checking this box

I've attached a screenshot. Im not sure why it works for safari but not chrome or firefox. its been tested across several people / machines / and browser configs. I've tried updating the recaptcha key in the doting as well but it doest seem to work. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
A

A few questions to help clarify:

* do you need to stay on 8.2 or can you upgrade to 8.4?
* are there any errors or notices printed to the JavaScript console?
* any 404 or 500 errors involved?

thanks @myq -

No - I can upgrade but will this fix the problem?

* are there any errors or notices printed to the JavaScript console?
I have not checked. how can I check this?

* any 404 or 500 errors involved?
there doesn't appear to be any 404 or 500 errors on the page but how do I check this?

I'm not sure if upgrading will fix the problem or not, but each new version includes bug fixes, so there's usually no reason _not_ to upgrade.

Please open the web developer tools (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_development_tools) in your browser. You will see if there are JavaScript errors or request errors there.
