Site not allowing login or password rest

Hi, have a site built on 5.5.2.
Today I have attempted to login under the admin and also the editor accounts and both are not accepting the login.
I then tried to reset passwords - I received the email to the relevant email accounts, clicked the link and reset passwords. It tells me they have been reset successfully yet when I try again to login, I am still are unable to. I have a time out on this site after three attempts so trying not to have this activate. I was able to login to this site three days ago.
Any suggestions?

My issue is worse this morning as I cant even see my website, keep getting 'cannot connect to database' so have a bigger issue that just the login area.
Not sure where to from here.

Have since reset all passwords etc and issue is now resolved. Not sure what caused the problem to begin with.

I think this is a java script issue or the user is not active...please see database....
