to upload an image is divine - help!

when attempting to upload some .tiff images, I get a random graphic instead. Doesn't seem to be a size issue, since similar sized photos do fine.

The images are screen shots of video stills...

I have cleared the cache, and use Hostmonster and Firefox.

Thank you for your help - I have been working this for hours and checking the Hostmonster end. I found some help here about a 777 permission for files, but Hostmonster says not to do that.

Best to you-
Greg

Could you possible post a screenshot or link? Also, if we can see the filename the webpage is using to display the image we can tell if it is cached etc.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Greg,

It appears that the image "preview" in the file manager does not bother trying to decode and display .TIFF files - it uses a stock "placeholder" to indicate the image format is not a normally recognizable one.

FWIW, the .TIFF format is not a widely used format for an image asset on the web. Images destined for display on web pages will most commonly be one of three types: .GIF, .PNG, or .JPG depending on your needs and the image characteristics and what browsers are designed to handle deftly.

If you're uploading a .TIFF file to be "downloaded" by someone else, then I'd upload it as a "file" not "image" - and possibly upload a companion .JPG for display purposes (this part I'm note sure makes a big difference as it appears the same file manager is used for both content types).

In any case, browser support for displaying .TIFF files is better than it used to be, but it's still iffy and is pretty demanding and complicated for a browser renderer to decode and display.

HTH,
