Unable to download modules from the Marketplace

I have previously downloaded modules from the marketplace, but when I tried just now, I got the following error message
"You do not have permission to download packages from the marketplace."
Any idea why?

PS I'll avoid it for now by downloading to my workstation and then uploading, but I'd like to get it sorted.

That's odd. You're trying to download the add-ons via Dashboard > Add Functionality, correct?
There are a couple of ways to disable Marketplace downloads from the Dashboard. If you're logged in as admin, go to Dashboard > Add Functionality > Access > Other Permissions, you can lock down specific tasks for different users and groups. Check that out and see if "Install Packages and Connect to the Marketplace" is disabled for the Administrators group.
