Assign Licence to Add-ons issue

Permalink 5 users found helpful
I don't have any idea about C5. I am developing a site in my local machine. I want to know that if I will buy an add-on & assign it to my local site, will it be possible to transfer it to server.

e.g. "http://10.10.0.99/test_project" is my local sites url & I have assigned "http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/advertisement" this add-on to my local project. Now after completing the project I want to move the project on server like "http://www.domain.com".

Now my question is that, "Is it required to re-assign the add-on to my server domain.
Note: I have purchased only one Licence of that add-on.

Please reply asap.

Yes, you can transfer the license.

This will explain how you do it: http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/release-an-a...

I have another issue. During my development it is needed for me to test my site by client. So I have to hold the licence for both of my local machine as well as server. But I have only 1 Licence of that add-on. I can't afford more than 1 add-ons in case.
I think there must be some way out.
Please reply.

You are allowed to use one license on a development server as well as on a prod server, at least with the standard MP license.

" 1. License Grant. Subject to the provisions of this Agreement,
Customer is granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license
to use the Software Application for a single website and a single
staging or development version. Customer may not offer the System for
resale without expressed permission from DEVELOPMENT PARTNER."

Sorry I don't get you. You mean to say that I have to purchase 2 licence for it?

No, I'm saying you can use one and the same license for both development and production, since only the production one will be available to the public. The development install is just for you to use when testing new features and updates (which is crucial before installing anything on a live server).

What add-on are we talking about?

I'm describing the whole scenario regarding this topic. I have an account called "citytech" & my client has another with another username as well. Now he purchased 7-8 add-ons(Note: Single Licence) for a site which in on his local machine. Now I have added him in my Management Team as a Contributor. I have to access all these add-ons for further development.

How could he re-assign these add-ons in my local_site_url?

Sorry to say, but for that I have no answer. I simply don't know.

It is most likely possible to do, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will answer this.

Sorry I couldn't help you with this.

I am the client here, jumping in. I have not yet assigned the purchased licenses to my own server/site yet. They are in a saved for later assignment status. I will now be assigning them to citytech account. Will that solve this matter?

Hi,

Sent you a Private Message about this, but figured I'd elaborate here.

The username that bought the licenses owns the licenses. There's no way to transfer license ownership to another user. But you can assign your licenses to a project owned by someone else.

To do this, the project owner will need to log into concrete5.org, go to the project page, and add your username to the project's Management Team.

Then, make sure you're logged into your account. The Project should now show up in your list of projects, here:

https://www.concrete5.org/profile/projects...

You will then be able to assign any available licenses that you purchased to that project. See this article for more on how to do that:http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/designers/assign-a-l...

Here's the Management Team how-to:
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/designers/add-licens...

You can only assign licenses that you own. You cannot assign licenses owned by other users, even if they're on the same Management Team.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Matt. I think we are good to go. Since the developer added me to the
Management Team I was able to assign all the add-on licenses to the project
under their account.

I know they had an outstanding question that may be unresolved, not sure.
They will now need to use the add-ons in two locations: their local site for
testing and their server. The latter of which will become my public site
when uploaded to a hosting ISP. They seem to be faced with a problem of the
licenses only being valid for one site. Do you have any comments on that I
can pass on to them? I certainly don't want to have to buy $300+ of add-ons
twice!

Thanks,
John

Here's some background on how projects work:

If you move a site, database intact, from staging to production, it will create a new instance of the project. There will be two entries under "Found Locations" on the project page. This is usually how sites end up when moving from stage to production. You shouldn't need to re-transfer any licenses.

If you start off with a staging site and its URL changes when it moves to production, you may have to re-connect your site to the community. This will generate a new project page and you'll need to transfer your licenses.

Another option for local development is to download the add-ons and handle assignment after the site launches. If an add-on is unassigned, you're allowed to download the source. This is more convenient for some folks' workflows:

Thanks for all this information. I have an additional question.

My company recently changed its company name and thus its domain name (with redirects). I had installed several add-ons on the old domain name. Do I need to transfer those to the new domain name?

The instructions for transferring them to a new project (http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/release-an-add-on/) involves first releasing them from the old project, then re-downloading and re-installing them. That sounds to me like they will be non-functional on my web site for a period of time. Since this is a live corporate site, I'm a little leery of doing that.

What is the effect on the web site when I release the add-ons from the project? Will they still function on my site in their "unreleased" state?
