Best place to start?

Hi,

I am entirely new to Concrete 5, but have two sites that I need to start and would like to use C5. One site is already live and wants a redesign. Is there an easy way to build the C5 site in a temp directory and let the client view and then move it "live" when its all approved? Whats the best way to do that?

Any opinion on whether I should install the new version of C5 or use the prior version?

Thank you!!

Cobin,

Welcome to Concrete5. Glad you decided to give it a go. If you are starting to make sites with C5, definitely use the newest version (currently 5.5.1). That is your best option moving forward.

You can certainly develop your site in a temporary directory on your server (say example.com/development) and then move your site later by following these instructions:

You can also develop locally using MAMP or XAMPP. If you use Windows, read my post about what you should do there before installing:

Hope that helps. If you have any questions about themeing, this is a great reference article:
