Control appearance of blocks in a stack added to Global Area when page is in edit mode?

Hi,

I'm loving working with C5.5.1... especially the Global Area functionality!! Makes it so easy to add sitewide content that can be edited by the user. HOORAY!

But I'm wondering if there's a way to control how the blocks display when a page is in edit mode. I've got an area in the footer of the site I'm designing that is split into three columns. I'm using a Global Area in the footer.php. I created three blocks inside the stack... each has CSS that sets it up as a 1/3 column within that area.

Everything works great when viewing the page normally... but when you put the page into edit mode, the blocks change to be the full width of the area, stacked one above the other. It's not a big deal, just looks ugly (see attached image - the black area is the footer and you can see the three blocks stacked above one another, pushing out over the gray body area below).

Is there a way to get CSS styling to apply to the blocks when the page gets put in edit mode so that it maintains the layout from the view display?

Thanks!

- John
