Do I want the Calendar Add-on or not?

I am trying to find a solution for an events page. On this page are various different lists:

Upcoming Events
Recent Events
Upcoming Events grouped by month
Events for next year

I was going to install the Calendar and then define my own display type to match the lists i need.
Thinking about it though, how would my client add an event so it appeared in these lists.... oh i don't know! Do I want it or not?

yup, the calendar add-on would let you do this. Adding events is nice and easy as long as you're willing to write off people with IE6.

The upcoming vs. recent events would require a little customization of teh view modes for the block, but not a lot of work..

Well it'll be the client adding the events thus much easier to dictate what browser to use.
Just out of interest, if i am in the list all events view, how do i add an event? I mean there are no little boxes for each day to click on and add like in calendar mode.

really the typical way I'd add an event is by adding a sub page of the event page type under an event page.

the month view's little ajax add form is just an easier way to do the same thing. if you hacked the view templates around for some of these other calendar views you can probably get the overlay add interface to work for them as well.
