drop down menu css?

Does anyone know where I can find a simple bit of html to make a plain text dropdown menu? All the bits I've found including Superfish templates have that clunky tab format...

There is no such as plain text dropdown menus. Menu's outlook is created by CSS. You should alter the CSS code of the theme you are using. Then your menu will look as you wish, e.g. text lines without any borders, colour or boxes.
