File manager for non dashboard users in rich text field in profile

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I have a rich text user attribute where users(dealers in this case) can maintain a presentation page of their business. The users does not have access to the dashboard, just to a page where they can edit their user attributes. Is it possible to give the users access to the filemanager without granting them access to view the dashboard?

I have advanced permissions in use and have granted "File uploader" access to upload and edit files. Without dashboard access clicking "Add image" in the editor does not work at all, everything works fine when I grant the users dashboard access.

Well I need to access the filemanager from a rich text editor since the uploaded files needs to be a part of a single rich text user attribute. Had a quick look at your add-ons and didn't look like they integrates with the rich text editor?

The addons put an icon or link on the page in the normal view. the icons/links are only rendered for specified user(s). When clicked, they pop up an uploader dialog or the file manager.

Yup, unfortunately that's not the functionality I need but thanks anyway.

I seem to remember you need to give the group of users 'View' permissions on the page 'File Manager' in the dashboard to give them access through the rich text editor.

Go to Full Sitemap and Show System Pages. Expand Dashboard -> Files and click on File Manager. Select Set Permissions and set the appropriate permissions. This way they can reach the file manager through the rich text editor without having dashboard access (if I remember correctly).

That was my first idea as well but it does not work :( Did you do any other configurations to get it to work?

I haven't tested this myself but seem to remember this being mentioned in a Totally Random show a few weeks ago.

Allright, thanks.

Can't still get this to work. Could anyone confirm if this is supposed to work or am I trying something impossible here?

The problem is quite critical now since I use jQuery mobile for my mobile version and that does not really work with the dashboard activated.
