Google maps search almost never works

Hello Concrete5 members,

90% of the time I have problems with the Google maps search.
It almost doesn't work at all.

So my suggestion is to enable the latitude divs that are hidden at the moment.
I always remove the hidden field so I can use this. Cause like I said, the normal search doesn't work for me 90% of the time.

What do you guys think of it ? :)

Hi nesoor,

What version of concrete5 are you using?

When you say that the search doesn't work, are you referring to the "Location" input that autocompletes as you type? If not, please describe what is happening.

When it doesn't work, do you receive an error message in the browser console and in the input? If so, what is the error and message?

I have spent a lot of time entering addresses into the Location input and have not had issues with it.

Latitude and longitude are not as user friendly as entering an address, so I don't see that as a likely change.

Hello MrKDilkington,

When I enter an address and click on save, I get the following message: You must select a valid location.

If I try this more often I sometimes get a search bar below the location field (auto-complete) and when I click on it, it finally works. The address doesn't change but it does work then.

But most of the time the auto-complete doesn't work at all and I have to turn on latitude.
I do agree that it isn't user friendly at all but I thought it would be great as a second option.
But if I am the only one having troubles with it, I don't think it is necessary after all.

Hey MrKDilkington,

Sorry I forgot to mention that !
I am using version: 5.7.5.9 but I have this with older version too.

I also tried to enable elemental theme but it has the same issue.
Browsers:
Internet Explorer 11
Microsoft Edge
Chrome: 54.0.2840.99 m and lower versions.

Does this happen on both local and live servers?

Inconsistent working of the Location lookup and no errors makes me think there are other issues involved.

Hello MrKDilkington,

After some testing I found out what the problem is.
The autocomplete only works when you click on "Check API key".

So if I want to change the address, I have to click first on Check API key before the autocomplete works, even though the key has already been inserted once.

I hope I am not the only one who didn't know that. haha

I recommend reviewing the updated Google Map block documentation. When Google added the requirement of an API key, it required changing how the block worked.
