Need help with members message: "This user is inactive"

We occasionally have members who receive the message: "This user is inactive. Please contact us regarding this account." And they can't register because they already have an account ... which is inactive. These are folks I know have been active members, but suddenly their accounts are turned inactive. I am sure this is just a flag in the db but how do I find it and reset it?

If you login to the Dashboard as an admin and go to the Members page and click on the username for that user it should show either an "Activate User" or "Deactivate User" button at the top.

Depending on what version you are using I have seen this error pop up when the user enters the wrong password too.
