Need user attribute to display in member list but not required for login

Hiya,
I want new users to add their company name when registering - otherwise they can't register. I tried to test this by adding a new attribute for "Company or organisation" in Members>Attributes, made it 'required' and then registering as a new user and adding all the info.

1. When I logged in as the new user it also asks me for company name at login. I need this to be required for sign up but not for login... how do I do that?

2. When I go to Search Users and a list of all users is displayed, I'd like a column showing their company name on this page... how do I do that?

Screenshot of the settings attached.

I've searched on the forums and in documentation but I'm going round in circles. Can anyone give me some pointers please?

Many thanks
Allison :)

Hey AllisonFewtrell

Its sounds like something is wrong with the user profile permission that you setup. I would start with that and make sure they are setup the way you want.

As for search results. On the Search User Menu in the search bar select advanced. In the search popup click on "Customize Results". You will when see Custom Attributes. The attribute you created should be displayed. Then just select your attribute. Click Save as Search Preset. Name your preset whatever you like. Click on Save Preset and you are good to go.

Now you can display that search query anytime you want.

Hope that helps.

Hi stewblack23,
Thanks for your reply, I've gone back to the search problem a few times but it's not doing what I want.
So when the admin clicks 'members' in the dashboard and it shows the list of all the members, I want the company name to be visible there. I need the company names for all the users to be visible in a column alongside email, names etc by default.
Thanks
Allison

p.s. The login problem is fixed though, thanks ;)

Just do an advanced search, add that attribute to the results, and save it as a search preset.
