News custom page list block

I am trying to build a website to a friend based on concrete5, but after a lot of search here in this forum I did not found the answers I need... this way I decided to post and hoping that someone can help me.

The website have multiple pages where I use a lot the page list block with a few different templates... but in two of those pages I will have to filter the list by date...

The only way I found (here in the forum) to do that is to change the controller.php file from my page list custom block placed in the bloks/page_list directory... but I think that this will change all my lists based on page list correct?

So facing that problem I have the idea to simulate the installation of a new block renaming it and installing that new block, but I do not know if this will work without changing nothing in the new controller...

Thank you

I have created a block called Page List Plus that allows you to create lists of pages based on a bunch of criteria, such as page type, date and page attributes. You can then sort it by just about any conceivable criteria, too. Check it out and see if it might work for you.

I was hoping to do that my self, I only need to identify the the best way to do that, because I want to avoid problems in the future.

Thank you
