Problem with Multiple Upload Function

I think i posted this in wrong forum previously, so here goes again!
After much time spent trying to find the answer; i used ftp to upload a load of images for a slideshow to my incoming folder & thought i'd finally cracked it. Try as i might, however, the Multiple Upload function dosn't seem to want to import them to my file manager. Initially i selected all 15 (about 2-3mb) & after about an hour of the little twirly thing going round n round, noithing had happened, so i stopped it & tried again. This time i selected just 3 images (all jpg by the way) & after half an hour the little twirly thing was still going round n round............. Lastly, i tried to import just 1 image & after half an hour...... you guessed it! ..... still the twirly thing is going round n round.
MUltiple Upload should be saving me time, but what with having to ftp to incoming first & then it won't import them, i can see myself havinmg to upload them 1 by 1.................. unless that is....someone has the answer to it all!
