Set Advanced Permissions for all settings? for Admin?

I just entered into the realm of advanced permissions for the first time. I needed to specify permissions at the block level.

My scenario is, I have two User Groups in addition to the default (Guest and Admin), lets say User Group 1 and User Group 2.

I want to specify that User Group 1 can view a specific block, but User Group 2 cannot.

MY QUESTION
There are 7 settings presented:
- View Block
- Edit Block
- Change Custom Template
- Delete Blcok
- Edit Design
- Edit Permissions
- Schedule Guest Access

and next to each it says, "None". What does that mean? Does that mean that no one has permissions, not even Admin, and so I need to assign permissions for each of the above - because that is a lot of work as each one requires about 4 clicks to assign.

Or does "None" mean that there are no changes specified from the global permissions of the page?

Ultimately I just want to specify the View Block Permissions and have the rest assigned to Admin only. Is there a quicker way to do this?

(And my biggest concern with how this looks is that it looks like someone could make the mistake of not assigning anyone to the remaining settings, and by doing so, would render it inaccessible from anyone to edit in the future, even admin.)

Thanks,

Wow, I just discovered something right after posting this, although my questions still stands.

They built a really cool interface that allows you to drag a user assignment from one permission option to the next. That is, once I assigned Administrator to the "Edit Block" setting, I clicked grabbed and dragged the word Administrator down to the setting location below it to assign it to "Change Custom Template", and then repeated down the line, making it much quicker to do.

The only improvement with this is that I discovered this function by accident and it would be helpful if this was indicated somewhere, in the pop-up screen or on the user guide page for editing Advanced Permissions. Otherwise I suspect most people would miss this.

thanks, I hadn't noticed the drag and drop, makes the testing process far more painless!

re you problem, not sure regarding the 'none' I have found that my admin still has full access, but that may be becasue I am using a super admin or something similar. But if you add the permissions at the page level, then inherit to the page area it should propogate. Alternatively making changes to the page type default propogate too the page level and area level, but I'm having problems with the block level settings from the page type defaults.

I think you may have to set the permissions to "Page Type Defaults". I don't have it all figured out, but wrote some here about what I could make sense of, including maybe what you are trying to figure out under "Advanced Block Permission Changes to Page Type Defaults":

Yea I've tried that but still no luck getting it to make changes to the block level. I saw in your article your issue with having to manually change the order of blocks when changing the order on the default page; not sure if it'll do exactly what you want but you may get the desired effect by adding your blocks in a stack then reordering within the stack.
