Total Newbie is lost and having problems, Add-on will not show up when trying to add to site

Hi I would be really grateful for any simple help.

First I could not figure out how to choose the thumbnail image for my FaceBook Like Add-on. I was directed to lots of complicated documentation about Open Graph. I tried many things but could not figure it out and nothing worked.

Today I see the Open Graph Add-on but I downloaded and installed, uninstalled it, downloaded again, repeat but it would never show up on the list when I tried to add it as a block.

I saw instructions to go into my files on my host and do something, couldn't figure that out either but I found the Open Graph directory under packages and deleted it thinking I could reinstall it and maybe it would work. Now I can't uninstall it from the dashboard.

I downloaded a zip file but no clue how to unzip it and get it into the right directory or what to do? I tried several different things nothing has worked.

I'm very frustrated and lost at this point and I all I need to do is pick which image the FaceBook add on uses as the thumbnail because right now it keeps pulling random images from my home page...that's it but 3 days later I'm more confused than ever.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks!

Hello.

I'm sorry you've been having a hard time. Let me see if I can help.

The "Open Graph Tags Lite" add-on is not a block. It's something you edit from the dashboard. I'm using Concrete5.6 and the link looks like this:http://YOUR-WEBSITE.COM/index.php/dashboard/open_graph_tags_lite/...
(You may remove the index.php if you have Pretty URLs enabled)

I've never used the Facebook Like add-on, but you could also ask the developer for support.

I hope you get things figured out soon.
If you need anything else, feel free to contact me.

Thank you that is most helpful, I thought it was a block...but now that I have erased it, I can't get it to install again.

Is there a work around for that?

It's in my add-on list but I can't uninstall it (probably because I erased it).

Thanks again for your help!

I guess you're looking at the add-ons from your site's dashboard.
If you erased it from the FTP, you'll have to download it manually, upload it again and then try to install it from the dashboard.

If this is not the case, please explain further or post a screenshot.

Thank you, I have downloaded it and have it in zip form. But then I'm stuck because I do not know how to upload it to my host and how to unzip it in there. I know that it goes in the Package directory with the other add-ons but not sure what to do from there.

thank you for your awesome help!

You need to, either access your host from the web (cPanel > File Manager) or use an FTP tool, like Filezilla.

Upload the file to your server, and then, using the tools provided, unzip the file, which will automatically put it in the Add-ons list on the dashboard. Then you would only have to install it.

For an easier solution, try downloading the add-on again from the dashboard (not the zip file). You said you were having problem with this, but I couldn't quite understand. Again, a screenshot of your dashboard Add-ons page would be very useful.

Ok I will try that, thank you, you're the best!

Here is the screen shot of my Add-On screen in the Dashboard.

As you can see the Open Graph Add-On is there but has no icon and the edit button doesn't work.

I noticed you managed to solve everything, that step-by-step guide was very useful.

Glad everything is working fine now. Enjoy Concrete5! :)
