Where did right_sidebar come from and where is my default pagetype?

Working on my first site in v5.5.1

In my theme folder I have the following pagetypes:

homepage.php
default.php
view.php

I have my homepage set to the Homepage pagetype.

I want all of my subpages to use the default pagetype...however when I click to Add A Page, my only options are Homepage and Right Sidebar.

I don't recall it working this way in version 5.4. In that version, I would have seen Homepage and Page (aka, default).

What am I missing here? And where the heck did this Right Sidebar pagetype come from!?

I think 'right sidebar' is default.php, always used t o be.

Just try it to see what happens...

Will do...but why is it right_sidebar? Why can't it just be "default" or "page" like it was in version 5.4?

Further, how can I CHANGE it to not be right_sidebar? Not exactly the most intuitive name for a client if their site doesn't have a right_sidebar page...

Alright...I don't know what's going on.

I deleted the pagetype of right_sidebar and re-installed my theme. As expected, my homepage pagetype installs just fine.

But now when I go to add a page, my ONLY option is Homepage. Why can't I just choose Default or Page like I could before? I don't really get the point of the default.php file if I can't utilize it anywhere.

Thanks.
