Words of wisdom to every beginner

I am new to C5 and I love it but it's not easy to get your head around it in the beginning especially if you don't have any programming skills. There are a lot of tutorials some basic and some too advanced and get's you nowhere, my advice is this. Stick to the basics, forget about trying to get your head around the programming side, install the free elemental template populated with content and replicate that into your own design and the most important advice I give to you is this; website building is about adding a page on a page. It took me two weeks to figure that out, yes I know it sounds dumb but trying to create a category page thinking that using the pagelist will get me the results I saw in the portfolio got me nowhere. I couldn't replicate it using their methods but instead I used the idea I mentioned above and it worked.

Keep your site simple and clean and you won't be spending months on end trying to figure out how it will all come together.

I hope this helps many newbies out there struggling with C5.

In my opinion, the strength of concrete5 is the flexibility, but the more flexible a CMS is, the more complicated it is. On the other hand, I think it is quite user friendly – depending on what theme you use. But I agree with you that it is complicated to build a news page or a blog from scratch – there are not enough listpage templates etc.

The blog is nice until you get an error out of the blue like I did some get function I can't remember the exact wording, I posted for help here on the forum and didn't get a reply and that was a few weeks ago. So I deleted the entire page and reposted it and I got my comment boxes again but no new replies. The other issue I'm having but that's not just with C5 but zencart has it too and that's with gmail that it will throw all emails into the spam box and I haven't a clue on how to change this. I use wordpress for blogging and I still duplicate my posts into C5 but wordpress hasn't got that problem with gmail or should I say the other way around.

I don’t know why some emails are marked as spam, but there is a spam control in concrete5 under System And Settings. I haven’t used it yet, so I can’t give any advice.

In the forum, not every question gets answered, and I think it depends on the question and if there is anyone who can help anyway.
