a video tutorial geared for basic editors

hi all,

I made a basic 15 minute video tutorial for people tasked with making simple changes to preexisting web pages in Concrete 5. I know Franz made a bunch of excellent tutes in the Help section but I wanted to put together a video detailing what you need to know to edit a page without getting into fine detail.

Full screen should work ok too since I zoom in often.

I've added some additional comments and tips under the video in the comments section. FYI: the video gets about 5 seconds behind the audio after the 10 minute mark.

Here's the link:

let me know what you think! :)

thanks

btw, i was wrong about the Preview Edits function. Other editors can see what you've done, it's just not live/approved.

I've cranked out a few more video Tutorials on Editing; covering the File Manager in detail. These are meant to help new arrivals to C5 or help developers/designers orient their clients who need to do Edits and Simple Site Management or delegate Editing their site to others.

Part 2 or AKA Part 1 of Intermediate (approx 16 minutes):
http://www.utipu.com/app/tip/id/20583...

This wound up being basically about the File Manager which I believe is fairly important to understand how to use since that's where you upload, organize and administer different kind of files.

Part 3 or AKA Part 2 of Intermediate (approx 20 minutes):
http://www.utipu.com/app/tip/id/20589...

Overview of- rolling back to previous versions, moving blocks and pages, adding forms and other add-ons, and creating a new page.

Notes:

On Part 2

- When I say that you could use an Edit Block/Add-on to embed an Image as opposed to using the Content Block, I meant to say you could use the Image Block. I still prefer to embed a single image into a page by using the Content block since clients can easily align them left, right or center using the align tools in the editor.

- When you're in the File Manager, you can also click on a Thumbnail image to bring up another list of options as well which are fairly self-explanatory.

- Clicking on Type, Title, etc. allows you to Sort by those headers.

On Part 3

-Batch image resizing AIR links

Get AIR:
This is what you download and install first. These are the people who make Flash. It's fine to install it.

If you already have it, step the above step.

Download:

JustResizeIt:

I find these are sometimes even better/easier than creating a Photoshop droplet.

http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/spacer/...

Thanks Travis! Be sure to give it a review.

- When you Add a New Page it gets added below the current Page you're adding it from.

For example:

Home (everything is always "under" this even though it appears to be on the same "level" in the Header Nav)

Home
|
|
1st page
|
2nd page
|
3rd page

If you Add a New Page when you're on the 1st Page...

it will be located under the 1st page:

Home
|
|
1st page
---New Page Added
|
2nd page
|
3rd page

And so forth...

If you want them on the same level, create it when you're on the Home page.

The page Above is the Parent. The page Below is the Child. Children can have Children and thus become Parents too!

i forgot about this print documentation the Tom aka Maynar made a while back. I'm sending it to my current clients and for my company. Thought it might be useful for those watching this tutorial as well:

Please change the wording in this article. "The Minimum You Need to Know" is a registered trademark of Logikal Solutions for their tutorial series. http://www.theminimumyouneedtoknow.com....

Please change the wording on your webpage. "Java" is a registered trademark! So was "tutorial series" by the way and I think we all need to start speaking Klingon soon if guys like you hop further all over the planet.

There are better ways to promote your page then hoping all over the net throwing trademark complaints all over it, Mr. Hughes.

you're kidding me? ok, here's the patent troll's toll. the phrase has been rephrased.

You do know that this is a random posting on a forum linking to non-commercial content that actually doesn't even exist anymore since the site went defunct?

For those who'd like to see the video it can now be found here along with others:

I've also posted some install videos on vimeo:

thanks for the response jason. maybe we should inform Java of their copyright violation...
