5.3.0 upgrade (dashboard missing)

Hi guys
I'm really new at Concrete5 - I have a client who has what it seems a really old implementation of C5, the version I see is 5.3.0
Now, when I log in on the website's admin panel, I don't see the regular "Dashboard" button in the top menu bar - is that normal, or is something broken?
What would be the best route for me to take to get it fixed again?
