5.7.5.1 installation issue, sql error 42000.

PHP Version 5.5.9-1ubuntu4.11
Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu)

passed full pre-flight check and progresses to full-site / empty site.
new sql database running with root permisions. (overkill I know but ruling that out)
database created, seem to be full of tables.
error 42000 and then Trace:
#0 [internal function]: Concrete\Core\Package\StartingPointPackage->install_database() #1 /var/www/html/k/concrete/controllers/install.php(273): call_user_func(Array) #2 [internal function]: Concrete\Controller\Install->run_routine('elemental_blank', 'install_databas...')

5.6.x versions works fine.
fully updated ubuntu.
I can't sort this.

- both empty and full site has same error.
- directory permissions at 777 recursive applied.
This should be working!! Frustrating!
