can not edit home page - errors

i am stuck. I have just done my second clean install and the update to the genesis theme, this is what i see:

An unexpected error occurred.
count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable. This is hugely frustrating. I am running php v 7.2

I suspect you pretty much answered your own question. php 7.2 is a bit less tolerant than its predecessors in some regards. Try dropping back to php 7.1 (or 7.0 if need be).

I know the c5 core team are working towards php 7.2 compatibility, but dunno about that theme.

do you think if i drop the php version, it will mess up my installed site and current database?

Good point. I'd be very surprised, but I guess it's at least theoretically possible if some php code were to die part way through something due to a php version issue. The insurance policy would be to back up your files and database.

Since backups are most needed when you don't have them, having them reduces the likelihood that you'll need them. ;)
