cannot install and edit

Hello. Yesterday I deleted my old 5.6 website, and installed a brand new 5.7 installation using Softaculous. I have had numerous problems getting things to work after the installation. I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled, everything, many times, and i still have problems. At this point, I am imagining that it is a problem with the concrete5 website - just my imagination. I have attached 3 screen prints which show things that are only a part of the many problems.

I have been with concrete5 for over 4 years and have installed several themes, and have never had a problem or challenge before.

After logging in, nothing happens, and then I have to login again, and again, and again, and again. And after logging in, the concrete5 dashboard editing area completely disappears, as if I am simply a visitor to my site, and have not logged in. That is one big problem. I cannot stay logged in and do anything, even though I click "stay logged in for 2 weeks".

Next, when I am logged in, and want to begin editing, I click on things, and the screen changes S-L-O-W-L-Y, even though I am paying for fast private internet service, and somehow, I am just simply not given the opportunity to do whatever it was that I wanted to do.

When I am logged in and I type something, what I see on the screen is that there is an overlay of what I have typed that is on top of some other words, and it looks awful.

For me, things are not working with concrete5 at this moment.

I contacted my web host, and they claim there is nothing wrong that they can see or find. I asked if there was a problem with Softaculous, and they did not think so.

In the past, I have been able to spend a total of 2 or 3 days at the most elaborately designing a new website, getting each thing in place. But this time, I have already spent more than 2 or 3 days, and cannot even get things installed properly. My time is valuable.

Not anticipating that I would ever have a problem with concrete5, I deleted my old 5.6 website. Nothing is on my domain name and I am eager to get the new 5.7 website installed.

Please help.

Hi tamarosher,

What version of concrete5 are you using?
What theme are you using?
What add-ons do you have installed?
Have you modified or added any code to your site?

"After logging in, nothing happens, and then I have to login again, and again, and again, and again. And after logging in, the concrete5 dashboard editing area completely disappears, as if I am simply a visitor to my site, and have not logged in. That is one big problem. I cannot stay logged in and do anything, even though I click "stay logged in for 2 weeks"."

What browser and version of the browser are you using? If you switch browsers, do you still have the issue?

"Next, when I am logged in, and want to begin editing, I click on things, and the screen changes S-L-O-W-L-Y, even though I am paying for fast private internet service, and somehow, I am just simply not given the opportunity to do whatever it was that I wanted to do."

Are you using shared hosting for your website? My first guess is that this is a server speed issue (slow server or resources spread too thin).

"When I am logged in and I type something, what I see on the screen is that there is an overlay of what I have typed that is on top of some other words, and it looks awful."

Where are you typing when this happens? Please take screenshots of this issue and attach them with a reply.

Being so excited about the new options for version 5.7, I had included a lot of add-ons, several times, during the initial installation process. Then I got the idea, don't add in these add-ons, they might be part of the problem. Then after uninstalling everything everywhere again, and installing a new fresh installation without any add-on, I did have less of a problem, but I still had problems.

I don't think it is just my unfamiliarity with version 5.7. I cannot edit, not at all.

I have not been able to successfully install any theme. The default theme stays there and won't move. I cannot edit or change anything.

I have not altered any code on the site. I cannot change anything, sort of. And it takes so long to even try to do something, and nothing happens, and things click off and disappear.

I cannot imagine the new 5.7 edit process to be so difficult. I move my cursor around and around, and nothing happens - nothing.

I am using a macbook. I am using Safari browser. I tried the Firefox browser, and got the same results.

I have very low cost shared hosting with HostDime India. I have been very happy with HostDime and have never before with anything. My web host claims repeatedly that they cannot see anything wrong from their end.

Concerning screen shots, there's nothing to see, since I cannot edit anything. Often the editing portion of the website entirely disappears and won't return. Then I have to log in again. And then it disappears and I have to log in again. And then if it doesn't disappear, I cannot edit anything, nothing nothing will happen.

Thanks for giving me the idea about the server issue. I will contact my web host again.

I greatly appreciate your time to help me with this issue. Please contact me when I can help you.

I have attached screen shots.

I have watched the 5.7 tutorials. When the pencil turns green, OK. But when I move my cursor over blocks, the blocks don't turn green. There's no way for me to edit the sample content. Also, when I click the plus sign to add something, I cannot add anything. Nothing happens. Also, there's many options on the left panel in the video, that I don't have on my screen. I have almost no options on the left panel. Also, even though I can install another theme and delete the original theme, nothing changes for me, the original content of the previous theme is still there and won't change. I am unable to edit or change anything.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled over and over and over and over and over, and that does not affect anything. So even though I have all these problems, simply uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.

If I change to the Firefox browser, the same thing happens, there's no obvious improvement from Safari browser to Firefox browser. Oh, I was about the complain about Chrome browser, too, and then I tried Chrome browser - and with Chrome browser things suddenly begin to work more.

With Chrome browser, I can suddenly see some things in the left panel that were not previously available to me. I was able to see options like "add". So I clicked to add a logo. However, I am unable to upload the image. It never happens. I click the image I want, choose it, and then, after it is done, things are blank as if it never happened, and there's no images in the File Manager except those images that came with the default theme.

What can I do? Do you have any suggestions? If I went and bought a cheap windows computer, would that make these problems go away? I don't need a windows computer for anything else. Would I be able to install and edit concrete5 version 5.7 using a chromebook, which is cheaper than a windows computer?

Please advise me about what steps to take.

Just to clarify, when using Chrome the site works without any issues?

Hi! Thanks for your kind help. YOU ARE WONDERFUL.

Yes, Concrete5 version 5.7 did seem to work on the macbook when using the Chrome browser without the previous issues. However,

The editing was just too S---L---O---W.

It is just too slow. I am so busy. I don't have time. All I want to do is type in some sentences and throw in a few photos. It would take weeks to get that accomplished, since each tiny editing step took about a minute to save.

Because of the slow editing process, I deleted the website. I am now searching for a tiny, quick alternative to Concrete5, which will be appropriate for my small business needs. Concrete5 has been overwhelmingly fabulous for me. At this time, I need to leave Concrete5 and move on to something else.

Thank you very much for helping me.

Have you tried the concrete5 trial demo? It should give you a rough idea of what type of speed you can expect on a shared host (slightly slower since you are connecting from Asia). If the demo runs faster than what you are seeing with your current host, then your current host is the cause of the slow speeds.

Hi! Thanks for your help.

Yes, my shared hosting might be part of the cause of the slow editing speed. To just slightly edit one of my concrete5 websites that have already been built, the slow speed is not a big issue. But to build a brand new website - it would take months.

My memory is that I am paying only $2.99 USD per month for web hosting. I am currently on a low budget, and am happy with my web hosting. I need to find a CMS that is suited to my current situation. I am still searching.

More than a month later, I have finally identified the cause of the inability to edit Concrete5. The problem was the particular web hosting that I had. I now have a brand new web hosting arrangement, and things are back to normal with my Concrete5. I am so thankful.

Changing web hosts made a world of difference.

I have also made plans to upgrade my unique configuration with my internet service provider.

I am so glad to be with Concrete5!
