Can't Access 'System & Settings', Fatal Error, Unable to Back-Up Following Upgrade to 5.5.1

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Was running 5.4 without any problems with the Internationalization add-on.

Upgrading to 5.5.1 seemed to go ok until i went into the dashboard where things didn't seem right.

I can't seem to re-run the upgrade, or upgrade to one of the later versions as i keep getting a fatal error message when i go into System & Settings.

Am considering a fresh install, but can't get into the part of the dashboard i need to backup existing files.

Any ideas?

(screenshot attached shows what i get when entering System & Settings)

Okay try this..
Download the concrete5.5.1
unzip it into your root/updates/ folder overwriting the existing files and directories,
Run this file from your browser

Thanks.

I've given that a try and i'm still getting the same issue as before. Is there anything else i should try?

Cheers,

Rob.

You could try going back to your previous version,
go to root/config/ folder and edit the site.php file,
You will find a section that looks like this
define('DIRNAME_APP_UPDATED', 'concrete5.5.1');?>

change it to look like this
/*define('DIRNAME_APP_UPDATED', 'concrete5.5.1');*/?>

Looks like you will have to do a fresh install,
A useful guide can be viewed here

Good Luck..

I just wanted to post steps I take on my personal sites before upgrades or do major changes by or to a third party software.

1. I backup everything that will allow me to reestablish things as they were. Such as a Full Backup in addition to just backing up the C5 site files and DB. Of course with WHW1.com backup features, that is easy.
2. I create another C5 site in a folder and duplicate the existing site there, and upgrade the duplicate site only.
3. I test the duplicate site to make sure things are fine.
4. If things are fine, then I upgrade the original site.
5. I remove all redundancies and extra files (removal of the duplicate site, zip files, etc. not needed).

The above steps may help to avoid getting stuck with a bad upgrade or problematic upgrade.
