changing site to different domain name on 5.6.0.2

Just built a new site using .info
I am using a 301 redirect temporarily on the preexisting .com
Just spent the whole frustrating weekend trying to convert existing .info site to .com so redirect would not be needed. I'm using a dedicated linux server and have been unsuccessful either changing the .info site or having the database copied to the .com install so that it works.
Changing config/site.php file method seems to have changed?

I'm sure its simple but I'm sleep deprived and jacked up on too much coffee right now.... be kind :)

What error message are you getting?

Rather than error message, saw only basic page display and nav menu... no page styling or content displayed. If Nav was used, it linked back to .info site.
When .info site was erased, the .com site could not find path message showed when menu was used.
Sorry, should have taken screen shots.
(mis)assumed that just changing/adding line in config/site.php would allow me to have new/separate install on the same server to convert the .info to .com

for more detail: I copied the file structure from original dev site along with downloading the db. (after turning off pretty url's, turning off and clearing cache)Uploaded both to new site. Config/site.php doesn't appear to have same layout as earlier versions of C5
