"Concrete5 must be installed in an empty database"

Hi all. When I go to install C55.6.0.2, I get the following error:

There are already 137 tables in this database. concrete5 must be installed in an empty database.

My dbase is completely empty with no tables, and cookies are on.

Has anyone had luck with this?

Thanks - J

That sounds like you may have already had an unsuccessful attempt at installing or double clicked and run the installer twice on top.

If you are sure you have the right name for the database, and that there is nothing valuable in it, it may be easiest to delete the database (drop), re-create it empty, then try again with the c5 installer.

I'm getting this same error on the c5host.com demo area.

Thanks JohnTheFish,

Originally, I thought what you are saying. So I dropped all tables and tried the install...several time. I even deleted the entire dBase and started from scratch (several times), only to be greeted by the same error

I don't have any more ideas about what could be wrong.

An avenue of investigation would be to try and install on a different system, to eliminate the environment of the system that is giving the install problems.

I'm installing onto a remove server, hosted by GoDaddy. I haven't had issues like this before

Try installing 5.5.2.1 and if successful immediately update to 5.6.0.2

Same error:

"There are already 125 tables in this database. concrete5 must be installed in an empty database."

Can you log into phpMyAdmin click on your database name (Top left of the page)
If there are any tables select them all and choose "with selected" "drop",
Then try again..

I tried that several times, with both versions. I made sure there was nothing in the dBase before installation. But the same error pops up

GreyJay, did you find a solution? I'm having the same issue.

Have you tried creating a new database and installing?

If it says there are already tables in place it cannot be a clean empty database!

I got the install to work but I don't know why. Here is what I did start to finish:

Followed the installation instructions in the concrete5/Go Daddy forums, which includes creating a new empty database
Tried to install concrete5
Received "137 tables already in database..." error
Went to phpMyAdmin and dropped all tables
Tried to install again
Received error about double entries (I forgot to get the exact wording)
Deleted concrete5 content from ftp (to try fresh install)
Loaded concrete5 content again
Went to phpMyAdmin and dropped all tables
Tried to install again, received same 137 tables error
Gave up, almost installed wordpress, waited a couple hours instead
Went to phpMyAdmin and dropped all tables
Tried to install again, received same 137 tables error
Went to phpMyAdmin and dropped all tables (I'm stubborn)
Tried to install again, received tables error but 165 this time (slightly different error, hope?)
Went to phpMyAdmin and dropped all tables (again)
Installation completed this time
New screen appeared that said website could not be found and there was a back button - which I clicked
A different but similar screen appeared saying website could not be found with a back button - which I clicked
Voila! I was suddenly at my website with concrete5 up and running

I have no idea why it worked, but I was able to fully install after 3 consecutive tries of clearing the tables and running the installer. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can figure out why. It doesn't make sense to me that doing the same thing over and over would produce different results. Is there a time dependent variable? Here are my best guesses:

The installer made a little more progress each time and finally wrote all the files it needed to (I was only clearing the tables, not the files in the FTP)
The database has some kind of time dependent auto-fill and I was able to install concrete5 immediately after clearing it, before the autofill happened

Hi SolarEric

I have had exactly the same issue several times, the sites always seem to function afterwards but i've not narrowed down whats causing this issue, but your not on your own!

If i find out i'l post here.

@55 and SolarEric... I have not found a solution for this. I have tried starting several times with a brand new dBase and completely clean installs of C5. However, the issue still emerges.

I finally gave up and went home and played dead :(

I have just had this problem with a new C5 install of 5.6.1.2 (latest version at this time) on my VPS (which has had a number of previous C5 version installs) I appear to have fixed it by increasing Hosting Settings > Performance settings > memory_limit > Increase value from 16mb to 32mb

Hope this helps someone down the line...

Thanks ArtOwl. I'm gonna give that a try. Though I don't remember seeing that setting adjustment on GoDaddy's servers...
