Directories missing?

Hello
I am trying to determine which CMS to use for a not for profit but I have run into a bit of a problem.
Installed on Mac 10.5.6/Xampp but at install , testing, I get this message"
Web Server Access to Files and Configuration Directories
The config/ and files/ directories must be writable by your web server"
I am befuddled as there is no "files" folder. I have changed permissions on config but cannot move further i.e finish the install.
I assume it is me being stupid but I need help none the less.

Solved. The files/ directory was not being unzipped for some reason but a careful unzipping made all work. Sorry for being a bore.
there are a few archivers that don't extract empty directories.
This is also the reason why a lot of developers but dummy files into their directories to make sure it gets created... "Can safely be removed"
