Discussion addon (forum) - does it work?

I purchased and downloaded the Discussion addon (http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/discussion/) today.

First I installed it via "packages" at my current website solution. It showed up and I could see the two standard sub-forums ("Announcements" and "General Chat"), however, it was riddled with bugs.

1. Small Javascript-bugs, which I corrected.
2. Incorrect PHP syntax, which caused the forum to essentially be useless for people who don't know how to code PHP. I corrected the code.
3. Bugs in json data exchange; e.g. when clicking the "Post" button after having written a reply, the "loading" gif appears next to the "Post" button, but the page just hangs. It never loads/redirects, displaying the new discussion or modifications made to a reply. However, the post is created when reloading the page manually.
4. Post message don't appear - at all. They appear in the database, but not in the frontend. Subjects/headings, post dates, names, etc. do appear.

In the event that the issue was tied to the customization made on my website I tried installing Concrete5 v5.5.0 - completely fresh with new database and all. Now I installed the forum, again via packages.

The "Forums" site appears correctly in the menu, and upon clicking on this menu item the Forums page is displayed showing the two standard sub-forums. However, when clicking on either of these subforums a blank page is displayed. There a no additional PHP error messages (Deprecated errors are hidden) when comparing them to e.g. the front page. The blank page is shown when accessing the page via pretty URL and via the cID parameter.

Paying $55 for this addon solution, when it is this riddled with bugs, is quite - preposterous. However, I will keep an open mind and for now I will assume it was me who did something wrong. I am over all very happy with the Concrete5 CMS.

you might try posting in the support for discussion forums. see if they can help you out with this stuff. Maybe something on your site is causing a conflict.
also, you can check outhttp://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/basic-forum/...
which is a free forum add-on. (disclaimer: I made it)
