Error updating from 5.3.1.1 to 5.3.2

I need to update a site that is currently running 5.3.1.1 and I know I need to update to 5.3.2 before I can move one to 5.4.2.2 and beyond. Howerver, the update from 5.3.1.1. to 5.3.2 returns the following error...

Error occurred while upgrading:
Deprecated: Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() is deprecated in /services/webpages/c/a/calwestprinting.com/public/concrete/libraries/3rdparty/adodb/adodb-xmlschema03.inc.php on line 1411

I know this goes way back but I really need a hand on this one!

you can try to open that file and add an @ in front of the function.. @set...

or set display_errors to off in your php.ini

that message isn't a problem as long as it's not shown in the browser..

It shows that error and even though the Control Panel says it is running 3.3.2 , when I try to take the next upgrade step to 5.4.2.2 ... it tells me I have to upgrade to 3.3.2. Is that because it's not completing the upgrade when it hits that error? I am supposed to have this done by tonight but this problem is kicking me in the head. I will try to set errors off in PHP and see what happens... any other ideas I also welcome!
