Full page cache lifetime - best setting?

Hi all

I'm finding that my site (VPS hosted) is slow on the first pageloads, but thereafter it's pretty nippy (with some exceptions, but forget them for now). I've got full page caching turned on, with 120 minutes set as the period. Is it sensible to up this to, say, 24 hours? The site isn't updated all that regularly (small edits every day or so, but nothing major). If it was set to daily then people browsing would ensure it was kept current, and therefore that it remained snappy.

I'm looking into implementing the Concrete On Steriods fixes, and I've tweaked Apache and installed APC, but I'd like to get it as quick as it can possibly be.

Any thoughts welcome!
